This is my journey to become a healthier me. It began on January 26, 2010 and stalled out... I got a type 2 diabetes diagnosis on March 30, 2022 and started to focus on my health again. On November 8, 2022 I added Ozempic to my toolbox to help me shed some pounds and inches!

Tips for Newbies

Reading My Blog

Yup, I've been writing for a long time, and this blog spans more than 13 years. I can understand not wanting to start back at the beginning! If you're here to read about the Nutrisystem program and see my reviews of their meals, you can check my blog tags with the names of the entrees. My Nutrisystem journey started in 2009, so I'd suggest starting at the beginning of my blog. You'll also have the benefit of seeing how the Nutrisystem program has evolved over time!

If you are here to follow my Ozempic journey, it begins here. I'm still following the basic principles of the Nutrisystem program, including choosing low glycemic index foods, and occasionally incorporating some of my favourite NS meals, but I'm not ordering their food on a regular basis anymore. That being said, they really are great for quick meals and they are the perfect size for the Ozempic reduced appetite!

I have lots of recipes posted in my Recipe tab. Many of the older ones will use Nutrisystem foods, but you can certainly substitute them out with your favourite store bought products or else create a version of your own. The older recipes may be more for inspiration at this time. Play with your food, it's fun! :)  Even if you are following me from the Nutrisystem groups, my older recipes will use a classification system that has been changed with new lingo, and the program requirements have been modified. If you have any questions about how to count one of my recipes, feel free to leave me a comment and ask, and I'll be happy to help.

Get Set For Success

Whichever program you're here to read about or if you're just interested in healthy eating and weight loss in general, I would recommend you make a plan before you get started. Download a food tracking app like my favourite, Lose It. I love this app because it makes it very easy to count calories and track your macros without hard work. Most store bought products are scannable via the bar code, and if not you can just scan the nutritional label and the app adds it to your foods. If you're making a family meal? You can list all the ingredients in a Recipe and tell it how many servings you're making so that you can easily figure out the calories per serving. And it also links with your Fitbit or Apple Watch to track your active calories. It's super easy to use and convenient- which means you're more likely to use it!

Get yourself some healthy quick shelf stable snacks and/or frozen meals for those days where you're exhausted or stressed and just want to hit the drive-thru. Knowing that you have something readily available will help get you through those times where you just don't want to deal with anything.

If you can exercise? Find something that you don't hate and start small. Any bit of exercise is better than nothing!

And don't let your expectations get you down. We don't have to be perfect- I'm certainly not. The length of this blog tells you that I'm not. We just have to keep going. That's where we find success.
